Heart of the Channel Country

Mike Lollback, Chief Executive Officer

‘Hello’ from Barcoo’s new CEO

“Hello Barcoo!”  It's with real pride and excitement that I take up the position as the new CEO of the Barcoo Shire Council.

I would like to acknowledge the  Aboriginal heritage of the Barcoo Shire and pay my respects to elders past, present and emerging.

As a regular visitor to the  Barcoo region over the last 5 years in my role as a Group Manager at the Local Government Association of Queensland, I, like many of you, fell in love with this incredible place.  When the opportunity came up to become part of the Barcoo Council team and local community, I seized it with both hands and have been very fortunate to have been selected to take up this important role.

I’ve worked in Queensland local government for the last 20 years, filling a variety of leadership and management positions.  I am probably best known in Queensland for my work in disaster management, having worked as a local disaster coordinator and previously been a senior teacher at the Australian Emergency Management Institute.  Over the past several years I have held varied positions on Queensland disaster management committees and boards. I am in the final stages of completing a doctorate in Community safety.

Before joining Queensland Local Government, I worked as a Detective in the New South Wales Police Force for 20 years.  I worked in a variety of areas including, homicide, narcotics, special weapons and operations and tactical operations. I held a command position at the 2000 Sydney Olympic precinct and finished my career as the Operations manager at a large Sydney police region.

I moved to Queensland in 2002 with my family, worked for a short time as a facilities manager in the school sector, before starting work as the manager of community development at the then Maroochy Shire Council.  I later worked at the Sunshine Coast and Redland’s council before taking up my role as a manager at the LGAQ.

My wife Sharon is a deputy principal at a large Brisbane Independent School and I have three adult children, my beautiful daughter actor and terrific twin sons.  Whilst my family won't initially be moving with me because of their careers, they look forward to being regular visitors to Jundah.  Molly, my 3 year old boarder collie will be coming with me and it wont take long before you all get to know her.

And, like my family, I simply can’t wait to meet the people of the Barcoo shire, get to know you and let you get to know me.  I will become a member of the local church and look forward to spending some time chatting with locals in the regions pubs.  Somewhere in my youth I was a rugby league player, and still like to keep fit, cycling and kayaking.  I am a keen golfer and have dusted of a set of “country clubs”.

It’s my intention to be part of a team, work with the councillors, the council staff and the community in making sure that the Barcoo region is the best it can be.  You can be assured of my commitment to that.
