Council wishes to advise that we are conducting a short community survey to help us to determine a date for the 2024 Barcoo Shire show/special holiday. This survey is open to all residents who live within the Barcoo Shire.
Each year, Council can nominate a show/special holiday date to the State Government for approval for either an agricultural, horticultural or industrial show (public holiday for all shire employees) or another event (special holiday only for public service, bank and insurance office employees).
The two main options Council are currently considering at the moment for either a ‘show holiday' or ‘special holiday’ are:
- Longreach Show on Friday, 24 May 2024 (designated as a public holiday for all shire employees) or
- Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, 5 November 2024 (designated as a special holiday only for public service, bank and insurance office employees).
Council may consider other suggested dates, depending on the outcomes of the survey.
