COMMONWEALTH HOME SUPPORT PROGRAM 

Barcoo Shire Council works in association with Longreach Home and Community Care (HACC) to provide entry level aged care services in the Barcoo, under the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP).

The CHSP is a Commonwealth Government funded program that provides aged care support services designed to help elderly people to stay safely and independently in their own homes for as long as possible. Eligible persons are:

  • 65 years or older
  • 50 year or older for Indigenous / Torres Strait Islander peoples on a low income, homeless or at risk of homelessness
  • Requiring assistance with basic daily living tasks to remain living independently at home.

In Barcoo Shire, Council is able to provide up to five hours of service per fortnight for:

  • Domestic Assistance - general house cleaning 
  • Home maintenance and minor repairs 
    • Gardening, mowing, trimming, whipper snipping, and yard safety
    • Minor repairs and maintenance to fixtures and fittings, lights, gates, taps etc (as required) 
  • Social support (a cuppa, a conversation, and importantly, help connecting to services).
