The Barcoo Local Disaster Management Group takes seriously its responsibilities to its local community to prepare and support Council, local organisations and the community for possible disaster events. Council is committed to ensuring it is prepared for disasters in this area and will work with local agencies and organisations to ensure the best possible coordination of local effort in preparing, mitigating, responding to and recovering from disasters.
The Disaster Management Dashboard has been developed as a ‘go-to’ point for members of the community should the Barcoo Shire face a disaster situation.
Local Disaster Management Plan
Council has supported the development of this Local Disaster Management Plan to build on the considerable work previously undertaken in preparations for disaster management. Council will also develop separate plans to ensure sound Business Continuity Arrangements within the Barcoo Shire Council as well as a Community Engagement and Education Strategy to support the preparedness of members of the public. This Plan has also been prepared to meet the legislative requirements of the State Government as stated in the Disaster Management Act 2003.
The Barcoo Shire Council Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has developed this Local Disaster Management Plan (pdf) to enable the most effective coordination of local disaster management effort to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents of and visitors to the Barcoo Shire Council.

Be Ready, Central West
The Western Queensland Get Ready Flip Book is a free flip book that residents can keep on their fridge containing vital disaster preparedness information. Five local governments have been involved in the production of this excellent resource – a great example of local governments working together to find shared solutions to shared challenges. The Get Ready Flip Book addresses the most common disaster events which occur in the Central West: flooding; severe storms; bushfires; heatwaves; as well as pandemics. It features photos from each of the five Council areas depicting the various disasters we experience in our region. The flip books will be sent to every household in the five council areas – so keep an eye out in the mail for it. Download the flip book here.
