The Barcoo Shire Council has been granted an extension to apply for extraordinary financial assistance under a capped funding arrangement, to support clean-up and recovery efforts after the Western Queensland Disaster Event in early 2025. Eligible activities must be incurred on or after the 2nd of April 2025 up to and including the 30th of September 2025.
The Guidelines have not been amended to date, but the completion date for eligible activities has now changed to 30 September 2025. A link to the Guidelines is below.
If you are a rural landholder affected by the Western Queensland Disaster Event in March/April 2025 and you can answer YES to any of the below you may be eligible for funding.
Eligible activities related to clean up and make safe activities required because of the disaster event may include:
- Aerial surveillance of livestock.
- Clean up, removal, disposal and burial of animal carcasses.
- Euthanising distressed livestock.
- Disposal and transportation of associated silt, debris and building waste; and
- Extraordinary urgent repairs to fencing for exclusion of stock from public areas (not eligible under Category B of the DRFA).
Eligible costs must be incurred on or after 02 April 2025
If you are claiming for reimbursement, please generate an invoice addressed to Barcoo Shire Council, detailing:
- If you used a contractor to undertake the eligible activity. Please invoice this amount, with a copy of the contractor’s invoice as evidence; and/or
- If you did not use a contractor to undertake the eligible activity, please invoice based on your costs incurred.
Ensure all invoices specifically detail one or more of the eligible activities listed above. For the best chance of a successful application (particularly for non-contractor invoices) include as much information as possible such as flight logbooks, diary entries, photos and a breakdown of aircraft operating costs to demonstrate the actual expenditure incurred.
The funding is capped and is assessed by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority on a case-by-case basis.
All claims are subject to audit, and applicants may be required to provide additional information or supporting documentation upon request. Costs cannot be claimed under this fund if they have already been claimed under another assistance program or package.
Council will compile all invoices and submit them to the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.
Invoices must be received by Council by 21 November 2025
If the QRA deems your claim to be ineligible, Barcoo Shire Council will be unable to pay the claim.
